Stories
from the Internet Service
Provider Industry
Problem:
A division of a large technology company had developed the
technical infrastructure necessary to provide Internet service
to a medium sized customer base. The core business processes
for the division did not yet exist and they were relying
on other divisions for systems and support. At the same
time the parent company’s strategy was to spin off
or sell the Internet service business as it matured.
What We Did:
- Designed, documented and implemented the business processes
and systems necessary for the Division to function as
a public company, including Finance, Sales and Marketing,
Billing and Collections, Operations, etc.
- Worked closely with the client to identify and implement
performance metrics around each of the business processes
that would help drive the desired results and establish
a continuous improvement behavior pattern.
- Provided training to each of the departments around
the new business processes and the performance requirements.
- Implemented the necessary accounting systems to support
General Ledger, P&L, Balance Sheet, Billing and Collections.
Impact:
- As a result of the project the company was able to
transition from a technically focused division, to a business-focused
company. This enabled the division to mature very quickly.
Shortly after the completion of the engagement the division
was sold to a major telecommunications company.
